Bernie Lyons PhD Mr. Lyons joined Direct Flow Medical, Inc. in February 2006 as President and Chief Executive Officer and retired in May 2015. He has nearly 30 years experience in the medical device field.
Prior to Direct Flow, he served as President and CEO of Vasca, Inc. a later stage, privately held medical device company focused on subcutaneous vascular access ports for hemodialysis treatment in patients with end stage renal disease. Previously Mr. Lyons was President and CEO of CardioClasp, Inc. a development stage start up medical device company focused on the treatment of congestive heart failure. Mr. Lyons has held several senior level positions at Boston Scientific Corporation during his 15 year tenure where he was the Vice President, Sales & Marketing for Interventional Oncology; Vice President, Sales & Marketing of the Meadox Division; Vice President, Corporate Product Development; and President of Boston Scientific’s operations in Japan. Mr. Lyons is a member of the Board of Directors for Paramit Corp. and was previously a Director at Creganna Medical. |
David MilneDavid Milne is a Managing Director at SV Life Science Advisors, a leading international life sciences venture capital firm. The SVLS team manages five private venture capital funds with over $2.0 billion of capital investing in biotech, medical devices and health-care services / IT.
David joined SVLS in 2005 and focuses on the medical device/technology sector. He has invested in 12 early stage companies, 7 of which were incubated as seed concepts in specialty technology incubators. He currently serves on the boards of 6 SVLS-backed companies: EBR, Entellus (NASDAQ: ENTL), Lombard (NASDAQ: EVAR), Reshape Medical, Spinal Kinetics and TransEnterix (NYSE: TRXC). He has previously been on the boards of AqueSys (acquired by Allergan), MindFrame (acquired by Medtronic), NovaLign (acquired by Sonoma Orthopedics) and Sadra (acquired by Boston Scientific). In addition, he is an independent Director at Pogo-Tec and advises The Egg Factory, an incubator focused on ophthalmology and optometry. |
David Kolstad T'90David is Founder & CEO of Gentuity, LLC an early stage medical device company developing minimally invasive surgical tools. Mr. Kolstad founded Gentuity as an Executive In Residence with RA Capital Management; a crossover fund dedicated to investing in public and private healthcare and life science companies. He is a board member and past vice-chair of MassMedic and was previously Chairman and CEO of LightLab Imaging where he led the growth and sale of that business to St. Jude Medical. His experience includes providing board and executive leadership to venture backed companies developing novel solutions for percutaneous valve repair and end-stage heart failure. He received his BS in Chemical Engineering from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute and his MBA from The Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth.

Geoff PardoMr. Pardo joined Gilde Healthcare Partners in 2011 as a Partner, and has led investments in InovaLabs (sold to Resmed), BionX Medical and Vapotherm and serves on the boards of those companies.
Previously, he was a Partner at Spray Venture Partners where he led investments into Interlace Medical (sold to Hologic), Solace Therapeutics and TearScience and Cascade Ophthalmics. He served on the board of Solace, TearScience and Cascade, and was actively involved in Interlace and Conventus Orthopedics. Mr. Pardo also served as President & CEO of Facet Solutions, a spinal implant company focused on treating lumbar spinal stenosis until the company was sold to Globus Medical in 2011. Mr. Pardo has also worked at Cardinal Partners as an Associate leading their investing activity in the medical device sector. Mr. Pardo began his career in medical devices as a product manager with Synthes USA. Geoff has a B.A. from Brown University and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business. |
Moderator: Dr. Aaron KaplanDr. Aaron V. Kaplan is a practicing interventional cardiologist and a medical device entrepreneur. In addition to his clinical responsibilities in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, Dr. Kaplan supervises cardiology fellows and lectures regularly at the Tuck School. Prior to joining the Dartmouth Faculty, Dr. Kaplan was Director of Interventional Cardiology at the Palo Alto VA and served on the Faculty at Stanford University. Dr. Kaplan serves on the Editorial Board of Cardiac Catheterization and Intervention and Cardiovascular Revascularization Medicine (Section Editor).
Dr. Kaplan founded The Dartmouth Device Symposia (3D) in 2003 to provide a forum to examine issues central to the clinical development and commercialization of medical devices. Held each year at the Woodstock Inn, Woodstock Vermont, the Symposium brings together a small and balanced group of thought leaders from the clinical, business, governmental/regulatory, financial and legal communities. Issues are examined using a roundtable format frequently employing case study discussion. Papers emanating from the 3D Symposia have appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association, Circulation, The Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Health Affairs, and Cardiac Catheterization and Intervention. Dr. Kaplan is an active medical device entrepreneur who has been on the founding team of a number of venture-backed medical device companies including Tryton Medical, LocalMed and Perclose (acquired by Abbott). In addition, Dr. Kaplan has consulted to many medical device companies and was an Entrepreneur-In-Residence at Three Arch Partners. Currently, Dr. Kaplan focuses his device development efforts on Tryton Medical, Inc., a company he founded to develop a side branch specific stent. Dr. Kaplan has authored more than 40 U.S. Patents. Dr. Kaplan received a B.S. in Engineering Sciences (Cum Laude) from Tufts University, M.D. from Wake Forest University, medical training at Northwestern University and cardiology training at Stanford University. |
